Concave Round
I'm going to build a firepit. Can I line it with ceramic tiles?
I'm making a raised circle with landscape blocks.
I have a 36" round concave 1/4" thick fiberglass liner.
I want to place this in the circle of blocks, then top with an additional ring of blocks.
If I cover the fiberglass with thinset and 1/2" thick, "Iron-rock" exterior-grade ceramic tiles; Will it hold up to the temperatures imposed upon it?
We used to have fires on frozen lakes....and the ice under hardly melted.....I'm thinking it should work.
If heated up slow the tile will take the heat since the tile you describe sounds like a quarry tile and all tile are fired at a higher temp than the fire.. What won t hold up is the thinset and the flexing of what you have underneath.. If you live in a cold climate that has freezing weather, its another strike against you. Since water may be in the thin set and thin set isn t made for these conditions it will release the bond from expansion.. Sorry I don t believe it ll work.. GL
