How do desk RPG?

I know it sounds like a big, big question, and it probably is. I wonder how the RPG work. I know many aspects of D & Ds as masters dungeon dice, and the types of statistics that appear often in RPG digital. I also had some friends who play Vampire: the Masquerade and 2 belonging to books myself. I never got involved and if so little is known about the how it goes together. I especially want to know about the involvement of the storyteller. How can he form a story? What control there more of its flow? How can it take account of all factors and random variables? What if the story begins to drift from its course? I can not afford all these books and supplements and I like to do something my wife and I can play, but the subtleties escape me. Those who dare to tackle a Application mammoth like this ... Please help.

First, what kind of theme you want? D & D is fantastic, so Vampire that is more realistic and easier to understand. The storyteller leads the world. It shows in real life. Then, players choose who they are. They write a background story, which represents their past, they are alive (or dead) what they want, their personality, etc. They have goals long term and ensure long-term goals. Depending how many players there that you as a storyteller (DM or other) to mix their goals (so they form a party). If only your wife will play, then you do not have to worry about that. (Although it would be better if some other players were playing together ..) As a storyteller, you shape the world. However, you can not predict what your players will do. If you try, you will fail. Players are never what you expect. Drag your players through the nose, is not good. If they are lost, just trow them a clue in the face, then another, then another. Having someone to talk to your PC to go is worse than having your PC accidentally stepped on the field. In addition, if your players are lost, you can do a side-quest of it. Imagine narrative as reading a book. Tell you what happens, but the players say what the characters do. The players are heroes but it is books, the hero dies. You do not have to cover details such as when you go to the bathroom or something like that. What is a random gambling ... is all the characters do. For every action they have to throw dice (which is using their skills, if they role play then you can decide not needed). You can have all settled into your world. But usually you when there is a possibility something to happen or not happen. You also run for your npc (non player characters) shares, usually in battle (if there is fighting). However you may decide that there is a war going on in your world, while saying so. Also, if you want something to happen, you can make it happen. However, do not let your players know what is random and what is not, and do not let them see your dice. If they are unhappy in the fighting, as very very unhappy, you do not want your NPCs to kill them just because you ride well. However you should feel authorized to kill your players if their actions lead them. How did you form your story is yours. You can find ideas for your media player, or a mixture of their origins in another idea, and have fulfilled their objectives through your story. In either case history will be similar (but not the same thing). How to organize it on paper is another thing. There are 3 things that you need to know, places, NPCs, and events. There are all the methods how to organize ... I propose to note the features of NPC, knowledge and return short story (as few words), also notes some important places (few details) and just a short note of possible events ... you will probably change anywayz. Some Game Master just any place, but for a beginner notes of a great help. Also, do not stick in too much detail if you do not want ... One of the most important things is a background, so ask your players for one. Also, if you want to play with character in the game, and also the game master, you will probably wrong. Also you can try to find sources online for the games you want. However you can not whether the game online with the rules is balanced so because usually everybody can change ... but the games are not perfect as published.
