Set Screw
Lift the cap and invert the tank without screws?
I have a lift and turn bath plug. According to Lowe's you need to loosen the set screw to get these stars. I looked at mine and there is no adjustment screw. I'm pretty sure it's not a ball or a pop-up drain, but again, no adjuster. The dang thing will not come out! Any ideas for me? Thank you.

For other uses, see screw (disambiguation). Screws come in a variety of shapes and sizes for different purposes. U.S. quarter coin (Diameter 24 mm), scheduled for scale.A screw is a shaft with a helical groove or thread formed on its surface and providing a side to turn the screw. Its main uses are as a threaded fastener used to hold objects together, and as a simple machine used to translate torque linear force. It can also be defined as an inclined plane wrapped around a tree. The device is a big screw in a pipe used in antiquity to the present day to pump liquids. A screw can be used to move an object, with a threaded hole through it, in relation to another object for which one end of the screw is attached allowing it to rotate but not move axially. A tool vise is an example of such use. Indeed, a wood screw is also used in this way. Because it is moving forward in a movement Screwing the propeller of a ship is called a screw. Similarly, d'un aircraft is called a helix. [Edit] threaded Fixing The rest of this article is primarily concerned with the screw threads. A screw used as a threaded fastener consists of a tree, usually substantially cylindrical and in many cases ending in a point at one end and a helical ridge formed on or son her, and a head at one end which can be rotated by means. The thread is essentially an inclined plane wrapped around the tree. The mates with a helical thread complementary material. The material can be manufactured with the mating helix using a tap, or screw may create it at first driven in (a self-tapping screws). The head is specially designed to allow a screwdriver or wrench (British English: a key) to turn the screw, the drive in or released. The head is of larger diameter than the body of the screw and has no wire so that the screw can be driven further than the length of the tree, and allows compression. Screws can normally be removed and reinserted without reducing their effectiveness. They have a better hold nails and permit disassembly and reuse. The vast majority of the screws are tight by rotating clockwise, we speak of a right hand thread. Screw thread on the left are used in exceptional cases, when the screw is subjected to reverse the forces that could cancel a right hand thread. screws on the left are used on rotating objects as the left wheel on a bench grinder or left hand pedal on a bicycle (both looking towards the equipment). Screwing were made by a cutting action such as dies provide, but recent advances in tooling allow them to be done by introducing a non-threaded rod (white) between two parties who dies machined used to compress the blank in the form of fixing required, including wire. This method has the advantages of hardening of the wire and the backup equipment. A rolled wire can be distinguished from a wire formed by a die than the outside diameter of the thread is larger than the diameter of the unthreaded portion of the tree. Bicycle spokes, which are just bolts long thin unthreaded portions, always use rolled threads for strength. [Edit] Differentiation between bolt and screw See also: manufacturing process Bolt A bolt passes through a hole of larger diameter than the wire, and is held in place by a nut or similar device, it is not designed to be rotated. What is often referred to as a bolt is actually a screw cap, which is designed to be turned (or screwed). Cap screws may or may not be used with nuts. The distinction is subtle, but important in the design of the binding. If threaded all the way to the back of the head of a screw cap is a screw machine. [Edit] Other methods of fixing Replacement fasteners screws and bolts are nails, rivets, pins, needle-leaf trees, welding, soldering, gluing, and duct tape (tape). Another option is the threaded insert. Examples include HeliCoil [1] and Keensert [2]. [Edit] Materials and screws and bolts are the strength in a wide range of materials, with steel being perhaps the most common in many varieties. If a high resistance to weathering or corrosion is required, stainless steel, titanium, brass or bronze may be used, or a coating such as brass, zinc or chromium applied. electrolytic action from different metals can be prevented with aluminum screws for ways to double glazing, for example. Some types of plastics such as nylon or Teflon, can be threaded and used for fastening requiring moderate strength and great resistance to corrosion or for insulation electric. Even porcelain and glass can be molded screw threads that are used successfully in applications such as electrical insulators line and canning jars. The same type of screw or bolt can be made in different material grades. For applications with high resistance to critical traction, low-grade bolts may fail, causing damage or injury. SAE-standard bolts on a distinctive pattern of marking is impressed on the head to allow inspection and validation of the strength of the bolt. However, low-cost counterfeit fasteners may be found with a force real far lower than indicated by the marks. These ties are less hazardous to life and property when used in aircraft, automobiles, heavy trucks, and similar critical applications. [Edit] Mechanical analysis and turning towards fixed trough or the lock is a specialized application inclined plane. The trend level, called his son, is arranged in a spiral around a cylinder or a tree. This thread is usually either in a thread corresponding (negative or "feminine") in a helical nut, or forms a corresponding helical in the surrounding material more flexible because it is inserted. A simple example, threaded for attachment is generally done, and is thus commonly distinguished (in the terminology informal) from a bolt or screw for the machine. "screw joint bolts and generally have a" head "that can be mechanically or rotated, which usually serves as a stop, and may have an unthreaded "shoulder" portion under the head. A wide variety of other features are secondary. Technical analysis (see also static, dynamic) to determine the height, thread profile, coefficient of friction (static and dynamic), and the holding power of a screw or bolt is very similar to that performed to predict wedge behavior. The corners are addressed in the article on simple machines. Critical applications of screws and bolts will specify a torque that must be applied when driving it. The main concept is to tension bolt, and compress parts being held together, creating a source of type Assembly. The stress thus introduced to the bolt is called a preload. When external forces try to separate the parties, the bolt is not subjected to any constraint, except the preload force is exceeded. As long as the preload is never exceeded, the bolt or nut will never come loose (assuming the full force of the screw is used. If the full force of the bolt is not used (for example, a steel bolt threaded into aluminum, and then glue or thread locking insert may be used. If the preload is exceeded during use normal, the joint will eventually fail. The preload is calculated as a percentage yield of the bolt tensile strength, or strength of the son he goes in, or resistance to compression of the clamped layers (plates, washers, gaskets), according to at least one is. [Edit] Tensile headsScrews Rusty hexagonal bolt and bolts are usually in tension when properly installed. In most applications are not designed to withstand of high shear forces. For example, when two metal rods that overlap are joined by a bolt that can be separated longitudinally bolt must be tight enough that the friction between the two bars can overcome the longitudinal force. If the bars slip then the bolt may be sheared in two, or friction between the bolt and slipping bars may erode and weaken the bolt (called fretting). For this type of application, high-strength bolts steel are used and should be tightened to specified torque. Bolts high strength steel usually have a hexagonal head with an ISO strength rating (called property class) stamped on the head. The property classes most often used are 5.8, 8.8 and 10.9. The number before the point is the tensile strength in MPa divided by 100. The number after the item is 10 times the ratio of the tensile strength ultimate tensile strength. For example, a property class 5.8 bolt has a nominal (minimum) tensile strength of 500 MPa, and resistance to 0.8 times tensile ultimate strength or 0.8 (500) = 400 MPa. Ultimate tensile strength is the stress at which the bolt fails (breaks in half). resistance Tensile stress is the bolt will be a constant game (an elongation from which it will not be restored when power is removed) of 0.2% offset strain. When elongating a fastener prior to reaching the yield point, the tie is said to operate in the elastic region, while the elongation beyond the elastic limit is referred to as operating in the region of plastic, because the clip has suffered permanent plastic deformation. Bolts mild steel have property class 4.6. steel bolts are high tensile grade 8.8 or higher. A M10, grade 8.8 bolt may well hold a static tensile load of about 15 kN. There is no method for measuring the tension of a bolt in place other than to tighten it and identify how the bolt starts to move. This is called "to tighten. An electronic torque wrench on the bolt is used to test and the torque applied is constantly measured. When the bolt starts to move (tightening) briefly torque decreases sharply - this point is considered to decline as the measure of tension. [Edit] Types of screws and bolts used in combination flanged-hex/Phillips-head computersA hexagon bolts hexagon has a projection, designed to be driven by a key or a key. A hexagon has a hexagonal recessed drive, usually with a head cylindrical, but can also be found with a rounded button head or a countersunk flat head. Wood screws and chipboard have a tapered shaft. A hole about the diameter of the tree, but smaller than the diameter of the wire, often drilled into the wood screw can be driven into wood with breakthroughs, but there is a risk of splitting the room. Particle board is less likely to divide. A hole may be drilled in the brick, concrete or other hard materials and inserted into a wall outlet, a wood screw can then be inserted into the plug. Lag screws, lag screws or coach refers to a wood screws with a large head, square or hexagonal, driven by a key rather than a screwdriver. A machine screw has a cylindrical shaft, threaded its entire length, and is part of a nut or threaded hole. Tapping screws or self tapping screws have sharp threads that cut into a material such as sheet metal or plastic. They are sometimes notched at the tip of aid in chip removal during thread cutting. A self-drilling screw is similar a self-tapping screws, but a point of drilling a section through the material without prior drilling. Thread rolling screws have a lobed (usually triangular) section. They form threads by pushing outward during installation. They may have tapping threads or machine son. A drywall screw is a specialized self-tapping screw designed to bind drywall to wood studs or metal, but he proved to be a fixture construction versatile. An adjustment screw is used to prevent loosening due to vibration, is available with thumb screws, square head, hex head (inset socket) and, more often, headless (a grub screw in the language of United Kingdom, to be inserted flush with or below the surface of the piece). Otherwise defined as a screw whose thread reaches the head (if applicable) as opposed to a bolt. screw anchor is a wood screw with two pointed ends and no head, used for making hidden joints between two pieces of wood. Wood screw being driven into a board with a pin drill is similar to a bolt but without the head. The amounts are threaded on both ends. In some cases, the entire length of the rod is threaded, while in other cases there will be an unthreaded section in the middle. It may be anchored in concrete, for example, with only the threads on one end exposed. (See also: screw anchor, wedge anchor.) An eyebolt used to attach the cables to a surface. A carriage bolt or coach bolt has a head shaped dome or countersunk, and the tree is topped by a short square section under the head. Handles in the square is fixed (typically wood), which prevents the bolt from turning while the nut is tightened. Rib neck carriage bolt has several longitudinal ribs instead of the square, to seize in a piece of metal being fixed. A stove bolt is similar to a carriage bolt, but most often used in the metal. It needs a square hole in the metal being bolted to prevent the bolt from turning. The Superbolt, or Multi-Tensioner Jackbolt is another type of fastener that improvements or replaces existing nuts, bolts or studs. Tension in the bolt is developed by clamping screws are threaded individual in the body of the nut and push against a hardened washer. Assembly and disassembly of a size tensioner is achieved with hand tools, which can be advantageous when These large diameter bolting applications. Acme screw form has threads that are stronger and wider than the standard V-profile threads, making them much better for loading, linear actuating (also see ball screws), thread and fast. It is often used for vise screws. A shoulder screw is a screw used for revolute joints in mechanisms and linkages. The main stem of the screw is smooth and works as a suitable bearing surface. At the end of the cylindrical wire diameter is reduced.
