Will any cord work with the TI-84 Silver Edition to the Computer?

I don't have a "Ti-84 USB Cable" or what not. I do have a mouse that is USB on one end, and that "firewire" (i think) port that fits in the calculator.

Will that work, and what probram should I use to edit Programs and Applications?

A Firewire cable of any kind won't fit into any TI-84 Plus (SE) calculator (unless you modded it).

The TI-84 Plus has two ports: an I/O port (for backwards compatibility with the TI-83 Plus) and a mini-USB port. Ideally that's the one you'll be using to connect to the computer.

Therefore you'll need a mini-USB A (Male) to regular USB Male cable, which you can get at a local electronics retailer or online. Many cell phones, PDAs, and DV camcorders come with that type of cable, and I haven't had problems using that instead of the provided one.

Before you plug in the cable though, you'll need to have the software installed. The official one is TI-Connect: http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_ti_connect.html
TI-Connect is known to be quite buggy, however. You could also try the third party TiLP, if TI-Connect doesn't suit you: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/374/37481.html

Editing programs can be done by various IDEs, listed here (under 'Utilities'): http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/resources

Editing apps are a bit of a different story.
